At 21 years old, Miss Girl is already a muse for Steven Meisel. Hey, remember that Italian Vogue All Black Issue? You know, the best-selling issue of all time? Well, the issue came with four separate covers, and Sessilee was one of the coveted four. Meisel has done a ton of editorials of her in Italian Vogue, like the one up top. Just look at her work! « Read the rest of this entry »

Iconic drag queen Tyra Banks has told WWD that she’ll be au natural on this season of America’s Next Top Model, going weave-less the WHOLE season. Wow. In our Age of Total Weave, where almost errrbody has some kind of weave up in they heads, this is risky!!!
It sounds like a huge deal – I mean, what is Tyra without her many complicated weaves?!?! – but it’s not really, because Tyra’s natural hair is long and beautiful as it is. That’s why her lace-fronts look so good!!! You know, it’s sort of funny how she’s making a huge deal about going weave-less – is this supposed to give some, like, empowering message to women? Is it saying: “Hey ladies, don’t be slaves to your weaves!”
I think it’s more that she’s trying to look slightly less drag-queeny this season. But whatever. Weave is fabulous. Men and women should both walk around in weaves, carrying a personal fan pointed at their face for that really dramatic effect.

We fought for a black president, and now we have one! But even the Black Intelligentsia is pissed off at President Obama, now. Brother Dr. Cornel West released this short Wake Up Call to President Obama to DO SOME SHIT. I mean, I have to say that the dude’s only been in the office for a year, and there’s a lot of shit to fix. It’s partially his fault by making us think he had the magic wand to wave all problems away, immediately. He can be a great president, he just needs to like DO SOME SHIT! I really hope President O. see’s Cornel’s message, since obviously they are BFFs.
That State of the Union tomorrow better be good. Don’t get Apple’s major product announcement/Paris Fashion Week steal the thunder!

I know, I know. I’ve been silent for, like, weeks. Sad face. So much fabulous has happened in pop culture since I last posted that I’m still catching up. But! The good news is that after a much needed vaycay, I’m back. I got way stressed out with my school work, having passed my Ph.D. qualifying exams AND the dissertation prospectus all in the same day. Crazy, huh? The best part is that my advisor told me that my exam/prospectus colloquium was one of his “favorite Yale experiences.” Yay! So that makes all the stress and general fucked-upness worth it, right?!??!?

Yesterday, a Rated R Rihanna tells Starpulse that she’s open to The Vajayjay. “All humans are born with the ability to be attracted to both sexes,” Rihanna philosophizes. “I could see myself in a relationship with a girl.”
Exciting! It’s rare that a pop-sensation (read: Adam Lambert is not yet a pop sensation) admit to bisexuality. Maybe RiRi is just sick of men.
What if she got with Lady GaGa? That would be a trip…

Bootylicious pop diva and not-so-single lady Beyonce is apparently in talks with Wyn Las Vegas for a lucrative, long-term show. Remember her televised Thanksgiving special – “I Am Yours”? Apparently the show, which she filmed in Vegas after doing a concert DVD there earlier this fall, helped to boost ticket sales in a typically slow season. What does it mean? $$$$$$$$$$$$$$ for all!
Man, I hope Beyonce doesn’t do this. For one thing, she’s WAY too young, she’s slightly overexposed already, and she has plenty of money. The only people who ever do it are totally washed up. Like, um, Garth Brooks. She’s not THAT washed up. But knowing Beyonce, as I do, she’s probably gonna do it. For the money, obviously.
Oooh, but maybe she’s planning to retire??!?!?!

There’s a new celebrity couple in the midst. Colin Ferrell and Janet Jackson have apparently been seen romantical together. Move over, Brangelina!
